Another wonderful session at Babes’n’Books this week, with the focus being health and nutrition. It turns out that Darwin Libraries have a fantastic collection of children’s cook books. The touched on how important it was to not only provide your baby with the right nutrients but to also ensure that you are getting enough nutrients. The feature author for this week was Rod Campbell. Rod Campbell believes in making reading a fun and enjoyable experience and does so through his own books with the use of flaps.

This week we read Dear Zoo, Noisy Farm, Baby Animals and Can You? All four were such great books.

I remember reading Dear Zoo when I was a child and Campbell is right, the flaps do make it a more enjoyable experience. But as I discussed with another mother, why on earth does Dear Zoo end with a puppy being sent to the child? What zoo has puppies?

Baby Animals was easy to miss though when you’re reading them all one after another. I barely remember the story line now.

Can You? Was a touch and feel book, using another engaging method for young children. However the touch and feel aspect doesn’t work as well in a group setting as they cant just reach out to touch the book.
